Lena Dunham Looks Cute As Can Be

Oh my god. Can I just take a moment to say, I TOTALLY PREDICTED THIS? I don't know what to say — as soon as Lena Dunham tweeted that she was going to wear something that "looks like cake and feels like sweatpants," it hit me like a bolt of lightning: I just knew. Because say what you will about this fluffernutter of a Giambattista Valli ball gown; it does indeed look like a very comfy layer cake.

And I love it.

It's love-hate, sure — that's my go-to attitude with Lena's red carpet style — but you always have to give her mad props for chutzpah: because even though her Emmy history is dotted with fashion aberrations (last year's turquoise Prada is still seared into the collective consciousness), you can always count on her to make a splash. Plus, no one does fun-with-a-side-of-funky or out-there silhouettes (with lots of beading) quite like her. I mean, can you think of anyone else who'd have the guts to wear a dress that's not only pink and ruffled but also with a skirt nearly as wide as it is tall?

But hey: she's totally rocking it with her new platinum 'do, bold red lip and graphic black eyeliner— and while it's on the outer edges of the weirdness spectrum, I infinitely prefer it to one of those red-carpet-standard black column gowns or spangly sheath dresses: it's daring, unique, and fun, just like its wearer.

Also, it looks just like Kaylee's party dress on Firefly, and for that alone, I love it unconditionally.
