This Plus Size Formal Wear is Gorgeous

by Erin Mayer

The 2014 Emmys are recently behind us and we all have evening gowns on the brain. Specifically plus size evening gowns, after Melissa McCarthy stepped out in a gorg custom Marchesa number and we all thought "wow, wouldn't it be great if non-famous curvy girls had such nice options for finery?" One Australian label has answered these prayers: Fame & Partners' X Collection is a line of plus size formal dresses that are very lovely indeed.

Liz Black, the blogger behind P.S. It's Fashion, collaborated with Fame & Partners to create the 11-piece range and accompanying superhero-inspired photo shoot. She designed two gowns herself and re-formatted the other nine to better suit a plus size customer. Each gown is named after one of Black's personal feminist heroes (Frida, Harriet, and Eleanor, to name a few) and they are all Emmy-worthy (but waaay more cost-effective than that Marchesa).

Although the brand has always offered select styles in a higher size range, Black's X Collection, available in US sizes 12-22, is the first plus size-only line from Fame & Partners. Given that the offerings for cute, stylish clothing for curvy women are few and far between, any truly chic plus size collection that hits the market is worth getting pumped up about.

On the lookout for a killer plus size event dress? The X Collection should be your first stop. Here are my top five suggestions for which of these killer dresses you should slip into.

1. Malala

This gorgeous tired frock comes with a lace overlay that you can drape over your arms if you get chilly, but I think it's especially modern when worn strapless

2. Dorothy

There's no place like home... except for when you're wearing this dress and the world is your oyster. Ruby slippers sold separately.

3. Eleanor

So regal that it's almost presidential. I wouldn't be surprised to see our current First Lady in a variation of this dress.

4. Frida

Pretty as a picture in this long-sleeved crop top and high-waisted rose skirt.

5. Edith

A dress so bohemian that even Edie Sedgwick would be proud. Don't forget the door knocker earrings!
