Lifetime's 'Girlfriend Intervention' Cast Each Have Something Different To Add To the Controversial Series

Are you a fan of reality makeover shows? A new one has officially hit the scene, and it's definitely like nothing we've ever seen before. Lifetime's Girlfriend Intervention is, according to the network itself, all about a group of experts who want to "help restore one woman's confidence and inner glow," but the sneak peek reveals that the experts are a panel of black women offering their assistance to seemingly unstylish, bookish white women in what Variety calls the style of Queer Eye For the Straight Guy. Are you cringing yet?

It's not that makeover shows aren't always a good idea, because they totally are — but if this one relies on stereotypes to get its point across, it might end up being short-lived. The real question is whether or not the show will just end up offending its audience, especially since despite the fact that the show has yet to premiere, it's already stirring up controversy. Yikes!

Does the concept pique your interest? Click through the slideshow to meet the show's makeover team, and then tune in to the series premiere Wednesday, August 27 at 10 p.m.

Tracy Balan

Meet Tracy Balan, Girlfriend Intervention’s official hairstylist. Tracy, who dreamed of styling hair as a career from the time she was eight years old, didn’t enroll in cosmetology school until after she served in the US military, and has since worked with stars like Rita Ora. And if you’re in need of a little hair advice, Tracy often doles out tips and tricks on Twitter.

Tiffiny Dixon

As her website explains, Tiffiny Dixon is ”more than just simply a stylist.” The former face of Proctor & Gamble’s “Black is Beautiful” campaign, Tiffiny found her niche in starting her own company, MEO Total Body Beauty, where she and her staff serve as consultants for makeup and fashion. If any of Girlfriend Intervention’s clients need advice on wardrobe, it sounds like Tiffiny will be their gal.

Tanisha Thomas

You might remember Tanisha from the 2008 cast of The Bad Girls Club and the seventh season of Celebrity Fit Club. Now, Tanisha advocates for plus size women and plans to start her own nonprofit organization. If you want to catch up on what she’s been doing lately, check out her Twitter — she tweets nonstop! And judging by Tanisha’s reality show past, I have a feeling she’s going to end up being one of the most outspoken women on the panel.

Nikki Chu

And finally, Nikki Chu — the show’s resident interior designer and accessory designer for her own company, Nikki Chu Corporation. This isn’t Nikki’s first reality show rodeo, either. The designer, who started out in advertising, also served as an advisor on Oxygen’s Girlfriend Confidential LA.
