Demi Lovato May Be Headed to Another Fox Series

The conversation surrounding Glee as of late has been somber, to say the least, as fans and the cast themselves are still reeling from last month's shocking news of star Cory Monteith's passing. With the upbeat new Glee trailer that was released late last week, though, the tone seems to be changing: While Monteith's death will most certainly be dealt with, the only way to heal is to move on — and that's just what the show seems to be doing.

Amongst the things we already know about Season 5 is that the first two episodes will be Beatles-themed, as has been planned for months, and then the third episode will deal with Monteith's (and his character Finn Hudson's) death — after that, the series will go on hiatus for a few weeks while the majority of the season is reworked.

One of those plans for rework, apparently, might be the addition of new cast members: According to TVLine, former Disney star-turned-X Factor judge Demi Lovato is "nearing a deal" to join the show's fifth season, presumably after the series' short hiatus. Rumor has it she'll be playing "Dani," NYC-based struggling artist (aren't they all?) who plays friend to Rachel (Lea Michele) and Santana (Naya Rivera). She'll also be hanging out with former Idol star Adam Lambert, who's set to guest star next season as well.

Should the deal go through, Lovato will be appearing in six episodes, and the filming schedule will work around her X Factor schedule. Since both shows are on Fox (and air on the same night), the role makes sense — hello cross promotional opportunities!

Season 5 of Glee is set to premiere on Fox on Sept. 29.
