A Furry New Addition To The White House!

The White House announced a new addition to the First Family on Monday night: Sunny, an adorable one-year-old Portuguese Water Dog. Michelle Obama has said in the past that Bo, the current First Dog, lacks sufficient interaction with other dogs, and so Sunny, who is blissfully unaware that her owner is the most powerful human being on the planet, will fill that role.

“Sunny is the perfect little sister for Bo – full of energy and very affectionate – and the First Family picked her name because it fit her cheerful personality,” the White House said in its announcement of the puppy's arrival.

In addition to providing POTUS and his family with loyal companionship, Bo has often helped the President out with official duties, such as greeting White House visitors and cheering up residents at Walter Reed Medical Center. Sunny, a Michigan native, is expected to “follow in Bo's footsteps,” and if the video released by the White House is any indicator, she’ll be more than up to the task.

The White House celebrated the puppy’s induction into the First Family with a donation to the Washington Humane Society, so this is really just happy news all around.

If Sunny's introduction is meant to distract us from the NSA surveillance scandals, consider it a successful diversion.
