Taylor Swift Doesn't Only Write About Dudes

by Nicole Fabian-Weber

Taylor Swift gets a lot of crap from a lot of people in regards to the belief that no ex is safe from becoming a subject of one of her songs. (And said exes usually aren't portrayed in the best of lights in Swift's music.) But the singer just proved that she's an equal opportunist when it comes who she'll write about. Her new song, "Bad Blood," isn't about a boy she dated, as one may first suspect. It's about a girl. Another girl singer, to be exact. And, in Swift's words, she and this woman, who remains nameless, are just "straight-up enemies."

In an interview for the latest issue of Rolling Stone, Swift talks about how she wasn't sure if she and this mystery woman were friends or not for years. Swift said:

She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?' [Then last year] she did something so horrible. I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy!

Swift also claims that the subject of "Bad Blood" tried to sabotage a recent tour of hers by trying to hire people who were already working for her. The singer says she now just ignores the girl. She also claims that we're not going to find out who the song is about any time soon, if ever. "I know people are going to obsess over who it's about, because they think they have all my relationships mapped out. But there's a reason there are not any overt callouts in that song," she said in the interview.

While it would be fascinating to find out who Swift was talking about, I think the more interesting thing here is the fact that Swift clearly is non-discriminatory when it comes to writing songs. She's been the butt of so many jokes for so long for writing about her exes, but she's simply doing what so many other artists do: writing what she knows. Can't fault the woman for singing about her life.
