Kate Chastain From 'Below Deck' Is The Anger Management Master: 7 Instances That Prove It

Being the chief steward of a yacht is not an easy job. I seriously think some of the guests that board the Ohana on Below Deck come up with the most high maintenance, over-the-top requests just to mess with the crew. But Kate Chastain takes it all in stride, and she seems to always give her guests top-notch service.

Though she probably wants to throw many of the guests overboard, she doesn't, and that's due to her awesome anger management skills. If you're going to be out at sea, stuck on a boat, and in cramped quarters, you've got to develop some strategies that will help you keep your cool so you can keep your sanity. Follow Kate's lead, and you too can get through any situation as cool as she does.

Get Creative

When you’re out at sea with a limited food and booze supply, there’s going to be times when you don’t have everything you need to cater to a guest’s seemingly specific and trivial request. But instead of freaking out when that happens, you just have to think fast and improvise. Don’t have any mint for a mojito? Just use some mint extract and basil in its place. The charter guests will probably be too drunk to notice anyway.

Seek Out a Laid-Back Ally

If you work in a high-pressure situation like Kate, you know that the job can sometimes get incredibly overwhelming. That’s why it helps to have a friend who’s seemingly more calm, cool, and collected to keep you grounded. Kate has struck up a friendship with Ben, who’s a pretty chill bloke most of the time. Unless you imply that he accidentally put plastic in your food. Do. Not. Do. That. Now Kate just needs to keep her friendship with Ben drama-free, which looks like will be easier said than done.

Punish Others for Negativity

If you’ve got a lot going on with many people pulling you in different directions, ain’t nobody got time for negativity. It’s unproductive and contagious. Make those naysayers turn their frowns upside down by making them pay 25 cents for every negative comment they make, as Kate did with Kat. The only thing worse than setting up for other people’s beach picnic is having to pay for it, too.

Make Andrew Look Stupid

Seeing the lying, irresponsible, and immature former Ohana crew member Andrew make a fool of himself by wearing skimpy clothes and dancing for the charter guests is enough to turn anyone’s day from the worst to the best. Watch that moment on repeat for instant levity.

Have a 'Resting Bitch Face'

Kate does not smile, and if you have a problem with that, you can take it up with her self-proclaimed “resting bitch face.” But what people don’t always understand is just because you’re not smiling doesn’t mean you’re mad. In Kate’s case, it means you’re focusing on what you need to do, which is a great way to tune things out that might upset you and instead zero in on what’s important.

Plan an Activity & Then Take it Away

Nothing helps you get over your troubles faster than feeling empowered. In last week’s episode of Below Deck, Kate planned an elaborate pirate scavenger hunt for the charter guests because she thought the group was so fun, they’d really enjoy it. Wrong-o. While she was in the process of organizing the festivities, the primary charter guest totally crapped on all of her plans when he said Kate came off as bitchy. To her face, mind you. What’s that you hear? Oh yeah, that’s the sound of Kate throwing out your scavenger hunt clues. As the saying goes, “Kate giveth and Kate taketh away.”

Fold a Blanket

Folding blankets into decorative shapes can be very relaxing. If you need a minute to cool off before checking on your guests again, just go into one of their rooms and make sure the linens are all nice and tidy. The throw blanket will probably need to be re-folded, and trying out a new shape is always a refreshing feeling. How about putting the blanket in the shape of, oh I don’t know, a penis? That’ll instantly make you happy and get some sort of reaction from the charter guests. It’s a win-win.
