If Disney Princes Were Real...

It’s no secret that as fun as Disney movies are, a lot of them are… shall we say, problematic. We’ve gone over the questionable lessons they’ve taught us about getting married and living happily ever after — but BuzzFeed just took the issue to a whole new level with their “If Disney Princes Were Real” video. It’s proof that context is everything: When you take the stories out of their Disney settings, they get really creepy, really fast. The video is also hilarious, so get ready to laugh heartily.

Take Cinderella’s Prince Charming, for example. His dad totally threw him that party purely so he could meet someone hot and rich, just like he is. Because who doesn’t want to marry some dude they just met? That meme has it right — Cinderella never asked for a prince; she asked for a dress and a night off. Yikes. Snow White’s prince, meanwhile, makes a habit of kissing people he thinks might be dead. Real winner there, right? And don’t even get me started on Aladdin — would you really trust a dude who spends the courtship stage of the relationship lying about himself? Not cool, dude. Not cool at all. Although I suppose at least he’s not as bad as Hans in Frozen, so… there’s that. Here, take a watch:

Of course, the original fairy tales are pretty creepy all on their own. It’s not, for example, a kiss that wakes Snow White up in the Grimm’s version of the tale: The prince sees her lying “dead” in her coffin and “falls desperately in love” (sure, Prince — whatever you say) with her; then, when he decides to steal her body and bring it back to his castle, his servants trip while carrying the casket. This causes the piece of poison apple to dislodge, thus releasing Snow White from its spell — but I mean, seriously. Grave robbing. Technically he got the dwarfs’ permission first, but still. What exactly were you planning on doing with a dead girl in a coffin, Prince?

But hey, at least it’s all an excellent source of comedy, right? Whatever happens, make your own happily ever after. It’s whatever you want it to be.
