She Skipped The Purple Lips for 'Elle' Magazine

by Erin Mayer

Lorde is single-handedly responsible for my recent obsession with all shades of purple lipstick. The pop singer is so rarely seen without her signature plum lip color and for good reason — the look really works for her. However, we're about to see her softer side. On the October cover of Elle magazine, Lorde went for minimal makeup and I'm happy to report that she's even more beautiful without violet lips.

The "Royals" singer posted a photo of the cover to Twitter on Wednesday followed by the announcement, "i am @ELLEmagazine's october cover girl! so basically my life is one big never-ending dream." She appears fresh-faced and sans her usual Hot Topic goth lip, in keeping with the "natural look" makeup that everyone's been doing lately. I can't say that I'm totally over the plum, but it's nice to see Lorde mixing up her beauty inspo. The rest of the cover look is awesome too, featuring a black jacket with white fringe surrounded by a halo of Lorde's gorgeous curls. Can she get any lovelier? I don't think it's possible. Oh, wait...

"People have told me that I've helped them feel confident, like they can say things they want to say. They can talk about feminism in class without people calling them a lesbian," she told Elle in the cover story interview. "That's so amazing that I can make someone feel like that." OK, she's officially my idol now.
