Ariana Grande and Chris Brown Have A Music Video

by Caitlyn Callegari

There's a word I'm looking for here, one that will aptly describe this new Ariana Grande and Chris Brown music video collaboration for the song, "Don't Be Gone Too Long." It's just at the tip of my tongue (fingers?). Oh, I think I've got it. Here it is: Strange. This is the STRANGEST music video I have ever witnessed in my whole life, and that's including the masterpiece that was Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart."

I'm sure Grande and Brown's installment will be embraced by her literal LEGION of fans, but I'm genuinely confused by it all: the theme, the CGI, the '80s vibes. According to Cosmopolitan, though, this is just a glimpse at what might've been. Brown and Grande don't have this original song on either of their albums. Cosmo explains further, saying "it does feature on Chris' new album, X, but with Ariana's vocals removed and replaced by an, as yet, unnamed singer." So I guess this one is for fun?

It's actually kind of understandable (regardless of the real reasoning), once you see it. For starters, I'm not sure that in this medieval, Westeros-ish world they'd do the whole pop music thing, but I won't be a total hater. I'll play along and suspend my disbelief — albeit slightly. As Cosmo points out, apparently Grande's a princess and Brown is a lovesick dude (I'm rolling my eyes).

Some positives? Well, Grande looks the part: stunning and positively royal. Also, those dance moves are insane and look like they may kill a lesser person. You go, girl. Negatives? I don't buy it. Not the romance, the men on horseback, nothing. To be completely honest, the video isn't the only thing questionable here. The song. Ugh. I just don't know. Both Grande and Brown have beautiful voices — why manipulate them like that?

But you be the judge. Check out the video below and tell me if you'd wanna see this in a "theater near you":
