The New 'Mockingjay' Trailer Is Finally Here

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 is definitely doing their advertisement game right. Despite having only released one full length trailer so far, the desire to see the next film in the Hunger Games franchise is at an all-time high. Why? Because we have creepy Capitol propaganda posters and tapes featuring a brainwashed Peeta being kept by President Snow like a lapdog. Because we have Mission Impossible-level rebel posters that prove these avenging angels are not to be messed with. And because all of us would wait forever for Jennifer Lawrence, don't lie. The latest full-length Mockingjay trailer to hit the Internet dropped on Monday and the preview we were given of it last Wednesday didn't do it justice.

All of the Mockingjay trailers so far have had a distinct lack of actual mockingjay Katniss Everdeen. This trailer breaks the mold by having Katniss front and center, finally showing exactly how this war and the rebellion are affecting her personally. Katniss looks run ragged by the events of Mockingjay and the look on her face when she sees Peeta under the Capitol's control will absolutely break your heart. However, Katniss has been the focal point of the last two films — obviously, as the main character — and Mockingjay is about establishing the war and the consequences thereof as they spiral wildly out of the control of herself or of the rebels.

That's what made the trailers up to this point work even without five hundred close-ups of Lawrence's faces and that's what makes this trailer work with it. Yes, it shows Katniss' personal journey, but after everything we've seen to this point that just makes the stakes feel even higher. At the end of the day, Mockingjay hits theaters on November 21 and there’s no doubt already that it’s going to be a box office smash. If every trailer is released with this much anticipation coming before it, then I don’t think the movie makers have anything to worry about when it comes to how much money they’ll make. As for Katniss, well, my heart already breaks for her and everything Mockingjay is about to put her through.
