13 Book Scenes We Want to See in 'Mockingjay'

It's official, the newest Mockingjay trailer further confirmed just how epic the movie will be. With chaotic battles, sinister talks with President Snow, and a zombie-fied Peeta, it's safe to say that fans can't wait for the premiere. Even though most already know what happens if they read the book, there's something about watching those pages come to life that's truly awe-inspiring. Because of our unique opportunity to know what's coming, it makes anticipating how things will get transformed to the big screen even more fun.

Speculation over where Mockingjay Part 1 will end has been ongoing since the announcement that it would be two films. [Spoilers ahead] Although I think the best moment to end with would be Finnick and Annie's wedding, it's also possible they'll follow the Harry Potter route and make the second film just the battle for the Capitol.

Although we can't know for sure what will be included in the first part of the movie, we can hope our favorite scenes from the book will make the cut. And since there's one book split between two movies, they really shouldn't be leaving anything out. So here are 13 scenes I want to see in Mockingjay Part 1 when it hits theaters in November.

KATNISS IN DISTRICT 12

Author Suzanne Collins does a marvelous job describing the ashy remains of Katniss' home, but seeing it will make the destruction all the more real.

PEETA AND JOHANNA IN THE CAPITOL

Lionsgate

The use of first person limits the book to just Katniss' point of view, but the movie has the opportunity to go beyond just what Katniss could see. Hopefully this means we'll get to go behind the scenes of Peeta and Johanna's imprisonment in the Capitol. We've seen them in the Capitol propaganda, but I'm curious what it's like when the cameras are off.

THE FAILED PROPOS

In the studio, Katniss was less than convincing in her rebel pep talk. This is a moment to introduce some humor into an otherwise dark movie. It's also the first time we see Haymitch in Mockingjay when he comes in to critique Katniss' weak ads by saying, "And that, my friends, is how a revolution dies." I can practically already hear Woody Harrelson's voice in my head when I read that line.

KATNISS WATCHING HER FIRST SUCCESFUL PROPO

It's a big moment when she sees that she really can lead this rebellion because, face it, "Fire is catching and if we burn, you burn with us" is the slogan dreams are made of.

KATNISS AND GALE IN A RELATIVELY NORMAL SETTING

District 13 is not under imminent threat in the book so Gale and Katniss, for the first time ever, are safe. Getting to see the two of them interact in an environment where they're not trying to feed their families and just get to kind of be normal friends for a little bit could be interesting to see. Plus I'm really looking forward to how the director plans to show that Gale's not the one for Katniss through his love for warfare. I think that's a really important theme in the book that needs to be drawn out even more in the movie so it's evident that Peeta was the right choice for her in the end because he calms her down when she gets riled up, where as Gale just riles her up more.

PRIM BEING A BADASS

She deserves all the credit she can get because she's like, 14 in Mockingjay, and is basically a doctor already attending to injuries I wouldn't even be able to look at, let alone fix. She's really grown up in Mockingjay and seeing that side of her would do her character justice.

FINNICK AND HAYMITCH REVEALING HOW AWFUL THE CAPITOL IS

Catching Fire missed the opportunity to show Haymitch's own Hunger Games, so Mockingjay shouldn't gloss over the huge lesson we learn about the Capitol in the third book. Namely that even the victors weren't safe and were traded as prostitutes to wealthy Capitol citizens. If they refused, a family member was killed, which Johanna Mason and Haymitch experienced first hand. It's dark, but it really helps hit home for Katniss and the audience the true scope of the Capitol's horribleness.

PEETA'S RESCUE

In the book we don't get to see this scene because Katniss is our protagonist and she's unconcious in the hospital. But the movie provides an opportunity to see Gale and crew infiltrate the Capitol to rescue Peeta from President Snow's clutches.

PEETA CHOKING KATNISS

It's a horrible scene, but also with Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence at the helm, it's sure to be amazingly acted with all the right touches of suspense. I can already picture it being shown as one of those scenes in movies where everything is quiet and then something pops out of nowhere and makes everyone in the theater jump.

FINNICK AND ANNIE'S WEDDING

A light-hearted, happy occasion is always welcome to break up the death count this film is sure to rack up.

JOHANNA AND KATNISS TRAINING

Jena Malone's Johanna holds a special place in my heart and I hope her scenes training with Katniss aren't overlooked. Especially when we later learn Johanna was tortured with water in the Capitol and yet trained in the rain despite how scared she must have felt. That's some bravery that deserves film recognition.

KATNISS GIVING JOHANNA PINE NEEDLES

When Johanna is ruled not fit for combat, before Katniss leaves for the mission she brings Johanna a bundle of pine needles to remind her of home (Johanna's district was the lumber one). That moment is so touching in the book and I'm sure the two actresses will make me cry if it lands in the movie. It's such a powerful symbol that the two victors are now allies, yes, but also friends.

THE HANGING TREE

If it's anything like the YouTube fan versions, it needs to be included in the movie because it's just as haunting as the plot is sure to be come November.
