Kelly Clarkson Calls Off Wedding... to Elope

by Kate Ward

She might have waited a lifetime for a moment like this, but it seems Kelly Clarkson is completely over the moment. In recent months, the American Idol winner and "Mr. Know It All" singer has been excitedly posting about her October wedding to talent manager Brandon Blackstock on social media, but it seems the singer has had a change of heart. But don't fret — Clarkson still plans on making it official with Blackstock. She just might make it official sooner than planned.

Speaking with People, Clarkson said the couple was becoming "overwhelmed" planning their nuptials while trying to maintain busy schedules. "We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, 'So, we change our minds and we want to elope,'" said Clarkson.

According to the singer, the fact that details of the wedding were being leaked online became part of the reason why the couple decided to choose an untraditional route. And, of course, an upcoming Christmas album from Clarkson certainly didn't help matters. Plus, said new stepmom Clarkson, "We have two kids who just started school. We're going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and [Brandon]'s got one of the biggest artists [Blake Shelton] in country music. He's flying everywhere."

Of course, those invited to the wedding found out about the change before the rest of the world did, with Clarkson sending out an engagement photo to everyone "and said, 'Thank you so much for understanding, but it's just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister,'" says Clarkson.

The guests might be disappointed, but the future bride certainly is not. Said Clarkson, "Our whole life is a celebration ... That's what we kept laughing about. We don't need another day where we throw a big party. Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, 'We would rather have an intimate moment that's special.'"

We bet that will be quite a moment.
