Proof SJP Never Lets You Down on the Red Carpet

by Mary Avant

There are some beliefs I hold near and dear to my heart, and one of the strongest goes as follows: Sarah Jessica Parker could wear practically anything she wants on the red carpet (even the most hideous thing you've ever seen), and still manage to pull it off with grace, class, and style. So when she wears something truly stunning — like she did at the 2014 New York City Ballet Fall Gala on Tuesday — that makes the Sex And The City star all that more amazing.

Supporting her pal and British designer Mary Katrantzou, who — along with fellow esteemed designers like Carolina Herrera, Thom Browne, and Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton — designed costumes for the New York City Ballet's opening night, SJP hit the red carpet in a Katrantzou look that was (no surprise here) absolute perfection.

With its long-sleeved silhouette, draped and flowing maxi skirt, icy blue (and slightly shimmering) hue, and intricately embroidered panel running the length of the dress, the gown was a different kind of high fashion than we're all accustomed to seeing Parker wear — but an elegant and ethereal one, nonetheless. Pairing the look with sleek, half-pulled-back locks and a wrist full of Fred Leighton jewels, the star kept all eyes on her statement-making dress with her simple accessories and beauty look.

Not only does SJP often rock more voluminous ball gowns on occasions like these (just look at her insane but amazing 2013 Met Gala look from Giles Deacon as an example), but the look is also a slight departure for Mary Katrantzou.

Known for bold, all-over prints and pretty minis (or, in the case of Taylor Swift at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, bodysuits), the look is far more romantic than her typical designs. Perhaps that's just the talented designer getting in the ballerina mindset, eh?
