This Is Your New Go-To Smoky Eye

by Rosie Narasaki

Ah, fashion week: It's a veritable treasure trove of sparkly shoes, high-risk, high-payoff clothes, and fun makeup looks. A lot of shows have had great makeup: Tommy Hilfiger's star-shaped temporary tattoos pop to mind, as do the bubblegum pink lips and platinum blonde hair of Jeremy Scott's Barbie-inspired line for Moschino.

It would seem that Spring/Summer 2015 has a lot of very wearable looks to offer us: Coach's intense undereye liner proved pretty low maintenance, and the beauty look at Opening Ceremony was very understated (though Dries van Noten may just take the prize for easiest-to-replicate). I'll always be a sucker for high-drama looks, but makeup that you can take off the runway and into the office (or onto the campus, etc)? I'm all for it.

Among all of these easy-to-wear, easy-to-replicate looks, one of my favorites so far has been the MAC-driven golden smoky eye at Alexis Mabille. Created by makeup artist Carole Colombani, the look features an almost foiled eyelid, complete with a matching metallic bronze wing. I've been a huge fan of golden shadow ever since Rose Tyler wore it as the Bad Wolf on Doctor Who (because what says "Time Goddess" more than sparkling lids?).

So, here's what we're working with:

A clean makeup look, with the eyes as the definite focal point. Besides the eyes, there's nude lipstick and maybe a touch of bronzer, but not much else really.

The Face:

Reaaaaally simple: just slap on your favorite foundation, and dust a touch of bronzer into the hollows of your cheeks, maybe add some nude gloss or lipstick (I'm wearing Make Up For Ever's Rouge Artiste Natural in N9) — I barely even did my brows

The Eyes:

I started with a thick wash of gold all over the lid (I used Half Baked from Urban Decay's Naked Palette). Make sure to extend the shadow all the way over to your tearduct, as seen above.

Then, I added Smog (also from the Naked Palette) into the crease of my eyelids, making sure to concentrate on the outer V, to get that cat-eye shape.

Finally, I just added just a touch of black eyeliner to my waterline (that's definitely optional), and finished with a healthy coat of mascara.

Super easy! Plus, it's a fun way to shake up your daily makeup routine — I'd definitely recommend taking the look out for a spin.
