Friends and Family Celebrate Robin Williams' Life

by Sofia Barrett-Ibarria

Friends and family gathered on Saturday to remember Robin Williams at his memorial service in San Francisco. Us Weekly reports that "hundreds of guests" and former co-stars attended the private service in celebration of Williams, including Whoopi Goldberg, Seth Green, George Lucas, Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Joel McHale, Ben Stiller, Josh Groban, Governor Jerry Brown, and Nancy Pelosi, among others. Williams' long-time friend Billy Crystal hosted the ceremony, who a source tell Us was moved to tears. Shortly after the news of Williams' passing broke, Crystal gave Williams a touching tribute at the 2014 Emmy Awards, which Crystal later told Matt Lauer was "the hardest thing I've ever have to do", E! reports.

According to E!, Stevie Wonder performed with the GLIDE Ensemble and Change Band while video tributes of Williams played around the room. Bonnie Hunt and Whoopi Goldberg reportedly gave heartfelt speeches, and Williams' wife Susan Schneider and their three children also spoke. Following the memorial, Williams' daughter Zelda returned to Twitter with a message for her fans: "I just want to say thank you for all the stories and letters I've been receiving, especially from those who've also lost loved ones[...]I don't come online often, but reading of others who have death with this loss & gone on to live happy, full lives is helpful. Truly." Zelda asks fans and supporters to donate to St. Jude Children's hospital in memory of her father.
