NARS Audacious Lipsticks Are Kinda Perfect

by Alexandra Kozinski

If anyone knows how to celebrate an anniversary, it's François Nars. In honor of his world-famous beauty brand's 20th birthday, NARS released the Audacious Lipstick Collection for fall 2014, and the collection is, in a word: LEGIT. The range boasts 40 (yes, forty) different shades, all incredibly pigmented and silky-smooth in texture. What's even cooler is that you may just find one of these lippies is named after you — every lipstick shade in this collection has a female name. #GirlPower!

Let's start with the obvious and discuss the aesthetics of the product itself. The casing is classic black, which is nothing new for NARS, but the lipstick tubes are made of a sleek metal — none of that rubbery packaging that will show fingerprints easily. It also has a magnetic closure, which is the most amazing feature ever - no more lipstick caps going rogue in your purse.

At $32 a pop, I would suggest choosing your shades wisely. Luckily you have plenty of pretty options — the colors range from nudes to pinks to reds and everything in between.

If you're looking for specific shade suggestions, here are three of my favorites from the Audacious collection:

1. Greta

Greta is described as "wild azalea", but for anyone who doesn't speak fluent florals, let's just say this is an extremely bright pink with a slight hint of purple-ish/red undertones. This shade would look great with a neutral shimmery eye & contoured, bronze-y cheeks.

2. Michiyo

Michiyo is a "shocking pink" which is a more traditional hot pink shade that quite honestly made me feel pretty darn sassy. This one appeared to pull some magenta undertones once applied to my lips, and I can see this being my new go-to bold lip for a night out.

3. Catherine

Catherine may be the most understated of the bunch, but she certainly still packs a punch. This shade is perfect if you're curious about the whole orange lip thing but not fully "there" yet. It's not overly bright, so it's totally wearable for daytime or a work day if you're craving some color without going too overboard. It's also a perfect shade to wear as we transition seasons if hot pinks aren't your jam for autumn.
