5 Job Sites That Aren't Craigslist Or Monster

by Carrie Murphy

Have you heard the saying that if you're looking for a job, your job search should be your full-time job? (A mouthful.) Translation: You should be actively looking for employment for a full work day, from 9 to 5. Although that's good advice, résumé revision, cover letter crafting, and trolling your local Craigslist day after day can get damn repetitive. If you've gone cross-eyed from scrolling Monster and have memorized the job description for every available position in your field within a 50-mile radius, try one of these slightly more off-the-beaten-path employment sites. If nothing pans out, there's always "networking."

LevoLeague: This positive women's career site is packed with great tips, advice and articles — but did you know they also have a job board? Anything that's posted here has, of course, been vetted to the max, so there's always jobs with companies like Aol, Rent The Runway, and Gilt.

Good Food Jobs: This is a great site for anyone who is looking to work in food, whether you're hoping to snag a gig behind the counter at an artisanal cheese shop or want to do marketing for a natural foods brand. The focus here is on "meaningful" food work, so you'll find postings from companies and publications that are aiming to change the way America eats, one organic tomato at a time.

TalentZoo : For marketing, advertising, and other creative positions, TalentZoo is. I like that they have a blog that engages with up-to-date issues in the digital sphere, plus a handy app.

StartUpHire: A site for start-ups! The jobs posted here run the gamut from tech work to social media to fitness, but what they all have in common is that they're with young companies and businesses. If you have a lot of energy and are interested in "emerging growth companies" (and other business-y jargon), this site might be a terrific place to find a new position.

FlexJobs: Part-time and telecommuting jobs that don't suck should be FlexJobs' tagline. Instead, it's "Life is flexible... is your job?" That's pretty good, but the best thing about FlexJobs is that all of the part-time, flexible jobs on the site are legitimate, not weird dodgy things you'd find the dark bowels of Craigslist or Elance. Create a profile here and let the site find part-time and virtual jobs that fit your experience, location, and more.
