Inspiration: Sloane Stephens' U.S. Open Look

by Candace Bryan

The U.S Open is well under way, but unless your name is Melanie C, you're probably not tuning in for fashion inspiration. Although Venus and Serena Williams always look incredible, tennis style is typically fairly boring — or at least non-utilitarian — with Spandex, visors, and sweatbands dominating the courts.

Monday, however, American tennis player Sloane Stephens played Luxembourg's Mandy Minella and changed some minds about tennis fashion. For the game (which Stephens won!), the 20-year-old stepped out in a bright magenta dress, with color coordinated arm band, headband, and shoes. A closer look showed that she even had intense orange nails to match. The look, paired with an ombre fishtail braid, was super-fresh, and the color palette was inspirational. We've been thinking about it since we first laid eyes on it.

However, her outfit was head-to-toe Under Armour, which most of us aren't going to wear outside of the gym. But here's a little proof that what Stephens pulled off on the court won't look totally insane to try in real life — and won't actually cost a U.S. Open's-worth of winnings, either.
