Drake's Being Investigated For Threatening A Woman

by Alanna Bennett

Say it ain't so, Jimmy! Last week we got wind of a story that alleged that Drake had threatened a woman named Jhonni Blaze. Then Blaze apologized to the rapper/former Degrassi star and his camp for the story blowing up. Now Drake's reportedly under investigation by Arizona authorities, according to TMZ, after an ex reported he'd been texting her alleged threats. For those keeping track at home, that's two police reports in approximately a week from two freak-out girls. Oof.

It should be noted that most of the reports from this are coming out of TMZ and Daily Mail, so grains of salt are welcomed. It's also worth noting, though that, Blaze's apology to the Drake camp didn't actually clear him of her accusations. As she said on Houston’s Mad Hatta Morning Show, as recounted by Bustle's own Kadeen Griffiths:

'I would never talk about nobody and I don’t have nothing bad to say about Drake. [...] I’m not about to exaggerate the story… [We] were just supposed to be friends and we had some disagreements, some things were said, some threats were being made as far as argument and that was it,' said Blaze, adding that the timing of her argument with Drake and the men looking for her just seemed 'weird.' 'I did what was right as a woman and just filed a police report for my safety, in case something happened to me. I apologize to the whole staff and whoever works with Drake. I apologize from my heart.'

Now we've got an entirely different woman feeling threatened enough to go to the authorities — this time after some alleged threatening texts Drake sent her warning her to stop posting photos of the expensive purses the rapper gave her or get "run up outta there" — and that's all kinds of troublesome.

I am in no way a law enforcement official or an attorney, and so it's not my place to comment on who actually did what, especially at such early stages. But it's telling that so many women are put in situations exactly like this: Where any malicious thing allegedly said by men they'd had involvement with might come back to haunt them in bigger ways. Blaze issued an apology to Drake's camp for the "trouble" she may have caused, but the fact that she felt the need to cover her bases "in case something happened to [her]" at all? Jeez. That says something — about our society, at the very least.
