Shekinah Is Way More Than Tiny's Sidekick

by Jodi Walker

If you're trying to tell me that given the choice between watching another superhero show with a permanent X-Pro-II filter, or a show where T.I.'s wife Tiny and her hair stylist Shekinah Anderson hit the road in an R.V. to fix women's weaves on a cross-country road trip, you wouldn't pick the latter, then I simply can't understand your entertainment preferences. Maybe you have no interest in hairstyling as an art (absurd), or maybe you've never had the privilege of witnessing Tiny and T.I.'s VH1 show, Family Hustle (how terrible for you). But at least you can get on board the premiere of Tiny & Shekinah's Weave Trip and repair the missing pieces of your life.

Yeah, that's right, it's actually called Tiny & Shekinah's Weave Trip, and it's a little like The Simple Life, but everyone is tinier, and they're providing an actual service on their cross-country road trip. Tameka "Tiny" Harris is well known for her time in the girl group XScape, marrying T.I., and their VH1 show, T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle. That's where a future star was born: Tiny's best friends and hair stylist, Shekinah Anderson, lovingly known as Shekinah Jo, the Nicole to Tiny's Paris (they're both kind of Nicole though) on their trip 'round the weave wide world.

Shekinah is often featured on Family Hustle, usually trying to dance, occasionally doing Tiny's hair, but there's a lot more to know about her other than just the first automatic Google search of her name (Shekinah Anderson twerking).

She's an Aspiring Business Woman

Many of Shekinah's storylines on Family Hustle focus on her wanting to go into business with Tiny, but Tiny not totally trusting her as a business partner. Tiny is established in the music world — she was in a multi-platinum singing group and won a Grammy for writing "No Scrubs" with Kandi Burress — and now it looks like she's finally agreed to pass the the expertise wand over to Shekinah. Shekinah has been on the rise as a hairstylist in Atlanta for years, and styled the likes of Monica and Ciara. But she also believes that "everyone deserves fabulous hair," and I guess the only way to make sure everyone gets it is to drive your business directly to them. The Harrises aren't the only ones who can hustle.

She's Very Open

Last year, Shekinah aired her plastic surgery with Dr. "J Curves" Jimerson on Family Hustle, and she's always open and excited to talk about it. Shekinah had fat lyposuctioned from her stomach and injected into her butt — "It moves and everything." She knows that she needs to eat well and exercise to keep "this ass sitting up," but, "it hurts so bad."

She can only be herself

Shekinah is making huge strides toward being the business mogul she's always wanted to be, but it doesn't look like she'll be going full-Martha-Stewart anytime soon. Like Frenkel and Burress before her, she'll still be holding onto the things that made reality TV audiences love Shekinah Jo in the first place.
