Did Sears Seriously Sell This?

What decade are you living in Sears? Or maybe the better question is, what planet are you from? Because I can't fathom a time or place where something like this would be OK. Sears had a men's swastika ring for sale on it's Marketplace website, and the public is less than impressed.

The silver ring emblazoned with a black swastika symbol was listed under men's "punk rock style" jewelry. Because antisemitism is so hardcore. But the product description was two steps ahead, seeking to dispell any hateful connotations.

This gothic jewelry item in particular features a Swastika ring thats made of .925 Thai silver. Not for Neo Nazi or any Nazi implication. These jewelry items are going to make you look beautiful at your next dinner date.

Oh, yeah. Because I'd consider it a pretty successful evening if my date showed up with a giant swastika on his knuckle.

In response to the well-deserved outrage, Sears tweeted personal responses to customers and apologized for the mistake, which they claim is a result of the product being from a third-party vendor on their marketplace. They have since removed the ring, and are in the process of reviewing the vendor as well.

Fortunately, the item was only briefly for sale on the website, and wasn't directly a product of Sears, but fashion retailers should more closely monitor items for sale behind their brand name, because the hurt and offense caused to the public can be catastrophic. And while we're at it, let's also stop masking insults by the facade of "punk rock." Thank you.
