"Out of the Woods" As Told By Emojis

by Kadeen Griffiths

Taylor Swift's new song "Out of the Woods" hasn't even been out for a full 24 hours yet and it's already number one on iTunes, right on top of her last single from 1989, "Shake It Off". That's right: she beat herself out for the number one spot. I don't know about you, but I've listened to Swift's "Out of the Woods" about 20 times since I woke up this morning, because this song is my new jam until Swift's album actually comes out. The song might not be anything groundbreaking for Swift in content — it's another love song about a former boyfriend — but the sound and the imagery were just so perfect that I want Swift to be my best friend.

Of course, the imagery of "Out of the Woods" is so rich that I felt like I could practically see the song happening. Not just because Swift has posted loads of pictures of woods and hikes on her Instagram as promotion leading up to the song's release, but because the lyrics evoke a certain feeling and several memories that her words make you feel like you're experiencing with her. Naturally, those rich pictures needed to be given life somehow. I mean, what else are emojis for if not to express the words in our hearts?

So, in case you were ever curious, here's what the lyrics of "Out of the Woods" would look like in emoji form.

Try looking at this picture while listening to the song and you'll see that it's an exact, word-for-word summary of what the lyrics are trying to say. Or, I mean, you could just read the lyrics here until you get a chance to listen to the song yourself. I was kind enough to include them.

Looking at it now

It all seems so simple

We were lying on your couch

I remember

You took a Polaroid of us

Then discovered

The rest of the world was black and white

But we were in screaming color

And I remember thinking

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

In the clear yet, good

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

In the clear yet, good

Are we out of the woods

Looking at it now

Last December

We were built to fall apart

Then fall back together

Ooh, your necklace hanging from my neck

The night we couldn’t quite forget

When we decided, we decided

To move the furniture so we could dance

Baby, like we stood a chance

Two paper airplanes flying, flying, flying

And I remember thinking

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

In the clear yet, good

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

In the clear yet, good

Are we out of the woods

Remember when you hit the brakes too soon

Twenty stitches in a hospital room

When you started crying

Baby, I did too

But when the sun came up

I was looking at you

Remember when we couldn’t take the heat

I walked out and said I’m setting you free

But the monsters turned out to be just trees

When the sun came up

You were looking at me

You were looking at me

Oh, you were looking at me

I remember

Oh, I remember

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

In the clear yet, good

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods yet

Are we out of the woods

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

Are we in the clear yet

In the clear yet, good!

You're welcome. And, of course, you can listen to the song over at JustJared.
