Katie Couric Has Big News

by Lindsay Mannering

It was a weekend of love for news anchors, both real and satirical. First, Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update host Seth Meyers married girlfriend Alexi Ashe in an intimate ceremony on Martha's Vineyard and now, People reports that former CBS news anchor Katie Couric is engaged to John Molner. During a sunset at an East Hampton, New York beach, Molner, who's the head of mergers and acquisitions at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co, proposed after a few years of dating.

Couric, 55, lost her husband Jay Monahan to colon cancer in 1998 and has two daughters, Elle, 21, and Carrie, 17. She currently hosts the talk show Katie, which airs weekdays. Molner and Couric made their first debut as a couple when they attended a screening of the Perks of Being a Wallflower back in April, 2012.

Before Molner, Couric dated Brooks Perlin for five years. Seventeen years her junior, the relationship evidently couldn't go the distance. Molner, five years younger than Katie, will be her second husband.

In 2011, Couric told People "I used to worry a lot about the future. [But] who knows what it will bring?Hopefully it will bring good things." Before Molner became her fiancé, Couric gushed "He's great. He's from Chicago. I love Midwesterners!"

Katie returns Monday, Sept. 9. Whether or not there will be more wedding planning features this season is yet to be seen.
