Amy Poehler Quote or Leslie Knope Line? They’re Both So Wise, It’s Hard to Tell — QUIZ

I think it's safe to say that many of us aspire to be Amy Poehler when we grow up. (Even if we're already grown up...) Yes, she's worn many hats from writer, comedian, actress, Weekend Update-er, and Pawnee bureaucrat, but I think we can also add philosopher, orator, and plain ol' talker to her list, because she is the owner of some of the best quotes on the Internet. Actually, Poehler and her Parks and Recreation character Leslie Knope both have some great words to live by, so let's see if you can figure out who said what.

"In a shallow business, I just had to come to terms with being really OK with not being symmetrical."

Amy!

That’s Poehler talking to People magazine about her upcoming book Yes Please . Now excuse me while I mark the days off my calendar for when that book drops. Yes, I mean “drops,” like how an album drops. Amy Poehler's book deserves the same acknowledgement.

"Don’t treat your heart like an action figure wrapped in plastic and never used. And don’t try to give me that nerd argument that your heart is a 'Batman' with a limited-edition silver batarang and therefore if it stays in its original packing it increases in value."

That’s Poehler delivering sound advice in a Harvard Class Day address in 2011, because our hearts really aren’t Batman with a limited-edition silver batarang — which would cost a pretty penny on eBay much like a discontinued American Girl Doll, I might add.

"We have to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, and work. Or waffles, friends, work. But work has to come third."

Leslie!

Leslie Knope is right. We do have to prioritize the important things in life and waffles (or any breakfast item of your choosing) is either first or a close runner up. Work will always come after waffles, both in our hearts and in our daily schedules.

"She’s my Han Solo and I’m her Chewbacca, because she’s the only one who can understand me sometimes, and I will destroy anyone who tries to hurt her."

Amy!

While that could be a quote from Leslie to Ann, it’s actually Poehler talking about her funny friend and amazing person Tina Fey at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards ceremony this year. Aw, there is no greater friendship than Chewy and Han, but Fey and Poehler come a close second.

"I’m a feminist, OK? I would never ever go to a strip club. I’ve gone on record that if I had to have a stripper’s name, it would be Equality."

Leslie!

Knope. That’s pure Parks and Rec right there.

“I stand behind my decision to avoid salad and other disgusting things.”

Leslie!

Avoiding disgusting things is something we can all get behind, I would say. We need that campaign to get going. I’m looking at you, kale lovers.

Thank you, Leslie Knope, for showing us the way.

“Ovaries before brovaries.”

Leslie!

In case you were wondering what comes before brovaries, that would be ovaries. This lesson was brought to you by Leslie Knope.

"It’s so funny because it doesn’t matter what you do, whether you have your picture in a magazine or you don’t, there are days where you’re just feeling it and other days where you look at yourself and say, 'Oh my god, who is that old woman in the store window? Oh my god, it’s me!'"

Amy!

Another quote from Poehler’s interview with People magazine about simply being human. Some days I think I’m on fire and my hair looks amazing. Other days it looks like someone set fire to my hair. Poehler gets it.

"What I hear when I’m being yelled at is people caring loudly at me."

Jason Merritt/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Leslie!

Leslie Knope said that, but in a way, it’s strangely good advice for real life. Instead of hearing the negativity or critiques, look at it as a person’s way of loudly caring about you. Think about it, when a taxi almost clips you because you were crossing the street, the driver will yell, but that’s only because he cares that you’re OK. See? Excellent perspective.
