Nina Dobrev's 'Originals' & 'TVD' Crossover Stills: Your Thoughts vs. What's Really Happening — PHOTOS

Remember that time Julie Plec decided to take the last thing any Vampire Diaries or Originals fan ever wanted and turn it into a crossover? Well, it's here. The CW has released the first photos of the Vampire Diaries and Originals crossover episode, "Red Door," that'll air on Nov. 3. And, no, I'm sorry — there is absolutely no Klaroline action going on. There are, however, plenty of photos of Nina Dobrev as Tatia, another Petrova doppelgänger. (Remember that other time when Julie Plec said we were done with doppelgängers?)

The photos don't reveal much more than previously released spoilers for the crossover — both Klaus and Elijah apparently fell for Tatia in the Middle Ages and that's set to be the main focus for "Red Door." Well, that, and apparently the fact that crimping irons were invented in the Middle Ages.

What I Thought: “What perfect timing to air an episode with a masquerade ball — so close to Halloween. OK, fine it happened three days ago. But, still. Also, those masks are cool.”

What’s Really Happening: According to previous spoilers for the crossover, the episode will reveal the ancient love triangle between this Petrova doppelgänger, Klaus, and Elijah. So, this must be from the happier days of Klaus and Tatia’s courtship, judging from that loving look on his face.

Tatia & Elijah

What I Thought: “UGH another love triangle with a doppelgänger at its point. Didn’t Julie Plec tell us that there’d be no more of this? Look at Tatia rocking the medieval fanny pack. #futurefestivalgirl.”

What’s Really Happening: LOVE TRIANGLE ALERT. According to The CW’s synopsis for “Red Door,” Esther is forcing Elijah to remember this time in his life — which mean Elijah was probably the brother who got hurt first. And this moment must be where he’s pushing Tatia away after he learns that she’s also romantically linked to Klaus.

Tatia Takes A Tumble

What I Thought: “Is this photo supposed to make me think that Elijah would ever push a woman? Because I know he never would. Never.”

What’s Really Happening: So far on The Originals Season 2, fans have learned that Elijah’s made a habit out of sacrificing his relationships to keep Klaus from going postal. It’s possible that this photo might be capturing the first of Elijah’s decisions to make such a sacrifice. I mean, this is his memory that Esther’s forcing him to relive, after all.

What I Thought: “They had crimping irons in the Middle Ages? This is so historically incorrect, Julie Plec. And I’m not just saying that because I hate every non-Klaroline-filled minute of this.”

What’s Really Happening: OK, fine, it’s entirely possible that Tatia had her hair in full-braids and let them out and that’s how it looked like this. (I’ve had cornrows before after tropical vacation, I know how it works.) This photo just serves as a way of explaining to TVD and Originals fans how and why Klaus and Elijah were interested in a Petrova. Oy.

Tatia & Elijah By Moonlight

What I Thought: “OK, we get it — both Mikaelson brothers had a thing for Tatia, who apparently had a thing for Game of Thrones-esque braided hairstyles.”

What’s Really Happening: This photo probably took place before Elijah decided to sacrifice his relationship with Tatia for Klaus or before he even know that Tatia was interested in the brothers as a set. Either way, this photo is showing a moment that will undoubtably explain Elijah's feelings for the ancient Petrova.
