North West: Fast Food Cashier?

by Alana Milich

It looks like despite coming from two of the most talked about people on the planet, little North West will have to get a job one day and work for what she wants, just like Mom and Dad did. I don't know about you, but color me surprised at this information. I don't know what teenagers do if they hit 16 and don't have a summer job. I assume they lay on the couch or the beach or wander around the neighborhood doing hoodlum teen stuff, but that never happened for me because I had to work to make money for the things I wanted. And it looks like North is going to have to do the same.

Kim Kardashian discussed parenting with Evening Standard Magazine, and what she said will make you think she's pretty normal. While North will undoubtedly be a bit spoiled — she's already been to Paris Fashion Week and allegedly has her own stylist — she's going to have to do normal teenager things like gett a job, because that's what Kardashian had to do when she was younger.

Kardashian told the magazine,

I saved up for this Dolce & Gabbana dress I really wanted, or like in high school these Prada shoes that my parents wouldn’t buy me... And I remember they were $400, and I had to save for the entire year to get them ... We didn’t get anything [from her parents], we had to get a job if we wanted it. So I was working in a clothing store and I would save and save.

This is probably the first thing Kardashian has ever said that felt super relatable to me. Granted, I was probably saving up for a $40 Roxy sweatshirt when I was 15 and not a $400 pair of Prada shoes, but I understand the feeling of needing to work for those extra things I wanted. I honestly can't imagine Kanye West ever denying his daughter anything she wants, mostly because I think he doesn't deny himself anything he wants, but if mama Kim says it will be so, I guess we need to believe her. Even Kardashian's friends are surprised that North will eventually have to get a job:

I was saying that earlier to my friends, "I wonder what [North’s] first job is gonna be." And they were like, "What? She’s gonna have a job?" and I was like, "Are you kidding me? Of course she is." She will have to work for what she wants.

I really have to hand it to Kim on this one. I've known some kids of parents who were pretty well-off and they can turn out two very different ways. Sometimes the kids of rich parents get everything handed to them and they end up not having any idea what it's like to work for something important to them. On the other hand, I also know a lot of people who were made to get jobs even when their parents could've easily taken care of them if they wanted to. It's those kids who end up understanding the value of money and hard work, and develop a work ethic. They are the ones who also end up being much more down-to-earth. Who knows if it's actually possible for North West to be relatively normal when she grows up, but these quotes give me hope that the first Kardashian-West offspring will not grow up in a way quite as ridiculous as we previously thought.
