You know a celeb is special when they can get names like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Julie Andrews, Maya Rudolph, Tony Bennett, and Rashida Jones all together in the same room to honor them. So, it's no surprise that the legendary Carol Burnett was able to do all that and more — according to the Washington Post, some of the biggest names in entertainment are set to pay tribute to Carol Burnett when she receives the 2013 Kennedy Center’s annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Oct. 20 in D.C.
Also present with be two of Burnett's former Carol Burnett Show cast members Tim Conway and Vicki Lawrence, who will also be paying tribute to the comedienne.
Burnett is, of course, an iconic figure in modern comedy — she was one of the first female comedians to receive her own TV series, The Carol Burnett Show, and it lasted for eleven whole years between 1967 and 1978. The series also won about 25 Emmy awards, and it averaged the kind of ratings that modern networks could only dream of: 30 million viewers a week. Considering that she paved the way for female comedians like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, it's fitting that they'll be honoring her.
With this award, Burnett is the first woman to receive both the Mark Twain prize, and the Kennedy Center Honors (which she was awarded in 2003). Breaking that glass ceiling like a mofo, that's just how bad-ass this chick is.
