You're Going To Want This Lena Shirt Too

by Quinn Keaney

Normally getting two celebrities to publicly wear the same thing would be as tough as asking Lena Dunham not to walk around naked on Girls — there's no way in hell it'll happen. Thankfully the actress, feminist phenom, and author of Not That Kind of Girl got a bunch of her famous friends to sacrifice a potential fashion faux pas by wearing the hot pink t-shirt she designed on behalf of her involvement with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s 2014 "Women are Watching" campaign. Tons of celebs got in on the shirt party in order to raise some serious awareness for the cause, and Dunham posted pictures of the ladies in her Planned Parenthood shirt to Instagram.

Since she arrived on the Hollywood scene a few years ago, Dunham has become a staple in the fight for equality and feminism, especially when it comes to reproductive rights. During her massively successful book tour she partnered with Planned Parenthood to shine an even brighter spotlight on just how important it is to vote in the upcoming midterm elections, because they give you a say when it comes to electing politicians who won't pass laws that will control the female body in stricter ways than current laws already do. With the help of celebrities like Mindy Kaling, Gabrielle Union, America Ferrera, and a whole bunch more, Dunham's recent stream of Instagrams are getting the word out in a big way.

In addition to those perfect pics, the Girls creator premiered an exclusive video with the help of Glamour magazine that further explains how important Planned Parenthood is to her, and how amazed she is by her spirited fans. In the video, which is a black and white montage of Dunham and some truly incredible young women speaking out about important issues over the course of her book tour, she says, "I just love how socially engaged young women are. It's really, really remarkable to hear what strong beliefs they have politically and socially, and how deeply they desire a change."

From minimum wage and reproductive justice issues, to retirement and immigration, no topic is left untouched.

"I used to think that all that mattered was, you know, vote for Obama and then go back to eating Cheetos and reading gossip magazines, but the fact is that the midterm elections matter," Dunham says in the video. "This is how you keep sexist healthcare policies from passing. This is how you keep sexist politicians out of office. This is how you create the change you want."

As usual, Dunham nailed it. How could anyone not want to get behind a cause like this? Check out the rest of what she says in the video below, or pre-order your own "Lena <3's Planned Parenthood" t-shirt to help benefit the "Women are Watching" campaign.
