She Has Some Good Advice for Kendall Jenner

by Erin Mayer

Being a model, though outwardly glamorous, is definitely tough. Even though Kendall Jenner slayed it on the runways from New York to Milan this fashion month, rumors have been circulating that she was bullied backstage by the other models. Luckily for Jenner, seasoned runway veteran Coco Rocha has some great advice for her fellow catwalk queen.

According to HuffPo Live, Rocha was not pleased by the news that the newcomer may have been treated poorly by fellow models. "It is bad for the industry, and if that all did happen, that's really frustrating to hear," she said. However, she offered some words of wisdom for Jenner and other girls like her. So, how does Rocha think young models should handle backstage cattiness? Calmly and with grace.

When [backstage cattiness] does happen, step back, breathe a minute, get out of the room -- whatever you need to do. Because in the end, people are watching you under such a fine microscope. People are are going to watch whatever you do, so if you want the job, if you want to be respected in the industry, remember that even though you're a young girl, you have to act a little older and a little wiser.

At first glance it may sound like Rocha is advising models to just deal with rude behavior from their contemporaries, but I think what she really means is that being the bigger person always gives you an advantage over whoever is giving you a hard time and ultimately makes you look better. If you want to be successful in a competitive industry such as modeling, chances are you'll have to deal with some crap from time to time. But if you keep your cool and focus on your own career, you'll be better off.

It's nice to see Jenner being supported by another famous model, especially given the fact that her family history makes her the perfect target for resentment. Hopefully she'll heed Rocha's excellent words of wisdom!
