Jake and Maggie Had Traumatic Halloween Costumes

by Alyse Whitney

Everyone needs to step up their Flashback Friday game now that Jake Gyllenhaal revealed his childhood Halloween costumes. The actor showed off his charming side yet again as he detailed the intricate outfits that his father put together for him and his sister, Maggie, when they were kids, ranging from a cardboard Ocean Spray cranberry juice box to an house that covered his whole head and body. The best, albeit strangest, part? He wore a full white spandex suit under all of them. Gyllenhaal joked that he was just going to wear a spandex suit this year, and I don't think anyone could complain. Sure, it's a little American Horror Story Season 1, but it's also Jake Gyllenhaal. "I can always wear my sluttiest outfit on Halloween," he told O'Brien proudly.

It's of note that the Gyllenhaal patriarch, Stephen, is a famed TV and movie director, so it's no surprise he went all out to design these himself. Unfortunately, it wasn't all fun and games for the Gyllenhaal kids — Jake said the traumatic experience of being a house didn't allow him to "see or hear or walk," and he had to wear a "fucking backpack battery." And to top it all off, he couldn't even access his candy — it all went through the chimney into a compartment to save for later. Womp, womp.
