The Cookbook Walter White Would Approve Of

by Michelle Regalado

Breaking Bad may have come to an end, but that doesn’t mean its legacy can’t still live on — even in your food. Baking Bad , a new cookbook inspired by the hit AMC series Breaking Bad , has just been released, and it’s jam-packed with all kinds of Walter White-approved recipes, no gas mask necessary.

Of course, when Walt and Jesse Pinkman discussed cooking on the show, they were usually referring to their next batch of crystal meth. Luckily, this new book requires zero potential jail time. Unlike other TV-inspired cookbooks like Orange Is the New Black Presents: The Cookbook, whose authors teamed up with the show's writers to come up with a list of Litchfield-inspired recipes, Baking Bad isn’t directly affiliated with the actual AMC show. Instead, it pays homage to the beloved series with a series of spoof recipes that put a fun spin on some of the show’s most memorable scenes and characters.

Written by food writer Walter Wheat (get it? Get it?), the book’s recipes are filled with funny references that only true fans will get. Case in point? Some examples of the pastries included in the cookbook are “Ricin Krispie Squares” (no poison actually necessary), "Mr White’s Tighty Whitey Bites" (a hilarious gingerbread cookie recreation of Bryan Cranston’s Walt character in a green button down and underwear), and "Heisen(Batten) Burg Cake" (a name fans know is connected to White's drug-dealing alter ego).

Not satisfied with those? You can also try replicating Jesse’s DIY acid bathtub disaster with lots of strawberry-flavored Jello and white chocolate, or aim for a (sugar) high with "Blue Meth Crunchies." Whatever recipe you go for, you can rest easy knowing they’re all, as Walter Wheat puts it, “98% pure but 100% edible.”

OK, so the recipe book may be not be anywhere near as satisfying as, say, another season of Breaking Bad. But at the very least, you will get some delicious and clever treats out of it. Baking Bad is available in the U.S. now. As Jesse would say, Let's cook, bitch.”
