'Riddick' Comes Out Today, Here's What to Watch on Netflix Instead

To anyone who was planning on going to the movies this weekend, I'm deeply sorry. The only new release is Riddick, the third installment of Vin Diesel's franchise that doesn't involve being fast and/or furious. This movie, just like The Chronicles of Riddick and Pitch Black, is set in the future, where the title character has night-vision. Still not exactly sure of how there've been three of these.

Unless that description really excited you or you really love One Direction, there's nothing to see in theaters this weekend. Instead, why don't you stay in and watch some Netfix. There are a few new movies available, and all of them are bound to be better than Riddick. Plus you don't have to pay $14 or put on pants to watch them. Win-win.

Don't Even Pretend That You're Interested

'There Will Be Blood'

This is the movie that brought Daniel Day-Lewis his second Oscar. Set in 1902, Day-Lewis plays a prospector who finds oil in his land and gradually turns into a greedy oil magnate. There Will Be Blood was nominated for seven additional Oscars, and also features an impressive performance by Paul Dano who plays twin characters. You might be confusing Day-Lewis with Abraham Lincoln in your head right now, and though he disappears into this role just as well, at least you'll have a new image to replace it with.

'Saturday Night Fever'

Speaking of getting images out of your head, go back to a much, much better time for John Travolta with Saturday Night Fever. Tony Manero in the classic white suit with all the disco moves, the '70s don't get better than that. At least let it hold you over until Netflix gets Grease.

'Our Idiot Brother'

A warning before I list the excellent cast: Our Idiot Brother is a comedy, but not quite what you'd expect from this group. It stars Paul Rudd as the titular brother, as well as Zooey Deschanel, Elizabeth Banks and Emily Mortimer as his sisters. It was released at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and has a strong indie feel throughout. It's still funny, but packs some heart, and Rudd is great as a dirty, well-intentioned goofball who can never seem to win with his sisters. Oh, and it also features Rashida Jones as Deschanel's girlfriend. And Adam Scott, Hugh Dancy, Kathryn Hahn and Steve Coogan. Why aren't you watching this already?

'The Other F Word'

There were a few other interesting documentaries added to Netflix recently, such as Miss Representation, but this one is just fun. The "F" word from the title is father, as it looks at rock stars who have had children, and now need to adjust their formerly punk lives to one that suits a family. There are tons of great interviews with the musicians from NOFX, blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Flag and more, for a heartfelt look at a side of rock you don't usually see.

'Aziz Ansari: Dangerously Delicious'

Though his next special will be released exclusively on Netflix, it took for a while for Ansari's most recent special to be available on the site. It was worth the wait. The stand-up comedian and Parks & Rec star is as hilarious in Dangerously Delicious as he was in his first special, Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening. That's high praise. This time he takes on dating, 50 Cent, Internet trolls, R. Kelly (again) and plenty of other topics that only he could make so funny. And for any fans out there, don't worry, there's an update on cousin Harris.

'To The Wonder'

You might've missed Terrence Malick's follow up to The Tree of Life, which stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams and Quantum of Solace's Olga Kurylenko. The plot follows Affleck's Neil, who falls in love with Kurylenko's Marina in Paris and brings her home to Oklahoma with him. However the plot isn't really what matters with Malick, especially in To The Wonder, as the cinematography takes the forefront.

'The League,' Season 4

Yes, there's a lot of talk about football, but this comedy has more in common with fellow ridiculous FX sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia than Friday Night Lights. Season 5 just premiered on Sunday on the new FXX channel, so use this weekend to catch up on Season 4. It stars Mark Duplass, Stephen Rannazzisi, Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer and Katie Aselton as the crazy members of a fantasy football league. Much of the show is improvised by its amazing cast and Season 4 has some pretty impressive guest stars, like Timothy Olyphant and Jeff Goldblum. Of course nothing beats an appearance from Jason Mantzoukas' completely insane, always horny, disgusting, amazing Rafi.
