'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader' Is Returning

by Alanna Bennett

The gripping mystery of who in the world knows the trivia fifth graders are taught will once again be solved on our network television. According to Deadline Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? is coming back to Fox, following the age-old adage that Hollywood ran out ideas somewhere around 2002. Who knows, maybe this time it'll be the next Voice.

The original Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? aired on the network from 2007 to 2009, and has been sleeping soundly since then, thinking it was in a grave when it was really in a coma. Someone's really gotta teach that show that nothing truly dies in modern television.

As for what this return will look like: Well, it'll look an awful lot like the original did. Jeff Foxworthy, the comedian who hosted the show the last time around, will be returning to taunt adults with their lack of elementary history knowledge. This is coming not long after NBC did a similar thing in reviving Last Comic Standing — apparently new reality competition series pitches are just too risky for networks these days. Maybe these shows can have brunch with the Bewitched revival and the second IT Crowd adaptation and compare notes over how tired the execs who ordered them looked.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
