One Direction Sure Knows How to Write a Love Song

by Kadeen Griffiths

I don't think that anybody was saying it, but let it never be said that One Direction doesn't know how to write a love song. I'll admit that sometimes they can swing and really miss. I'm not all that fond of "What Makes You Beautiful" or "Steal My Girl", both of which struck me as unintentionally misogynistic or hypocritical in content. That doesn't necessarily mean I haven't listened to both until I was being threatened with blunt objects if I didn't turn the music off, but criticizing something doesn't mean that you don't like it. When One Direction released "Ready to Run", despite stating that their next single from FOUR would be "Night Changes", I wasn't expecting to be melting into a little puddle of romantic bliss. And yet that's exactly what happened.

"Ready to Run" has more in common with "Fireproof" than "Steal My Girl", at least in terms of instrumental sound. However, there were certain lines among the lyrics that just stuck with me. Like, in my heart. As in, I'm sitting here wondering why I don't have five boys standing in front of me saying these things to me right now. As it is, I have to settle for having five boys sing these lyrics in my ear and pretend they're in front of me saying those things right now. If you're debating whether or not to give "Ready to Run" a listen, here are the six most romantic lyrics from the song that will convince you to download it right now.

1. There's a lightning in your eyes.

This line makes me sound like some kind of badass who can shoot lasers from my eyes with a single glance. Which is totally true about me and totally sweet of you to point out, One Direction.

2. There's a devil in your smile.

Why, yes, yes there is. I didn't know that was an attractive quality, but I'm willing to accept it because it makes me feel like an antiheroine queen.

3. I wanna be yours, don't you wanna be mine?

And here I thought I was being subtle...

4. Wherever you are is the place I belong.

I hope that means that if I don't want to "escape the city" and go somewhere else, that means you'll automatically stop being ready to run. I don't know if you've heard, but according to 1989 and my own life experience, the city (of New York) is awesome.

5. Unless of course I stay on course and keep you next to me.

To have some guy tell me that he's unclear of everything about his future except continuing to do whatever he's been doing to keep me in his life is to have some guy tell me that we're getting married next week. Because that is sweet as hell and would melt my cold little heart.

6. I keep everything that I got from your love.

Nope, I'm done. I'm a puddle. I'm a melty little puddle of love. One Direction, you have me and you have my heart, as well as the hearts of millions across America. How could "Night Changes" possibly be better than this?
