Want to Spend Thanksgiving with Taylor Swift?

by Kadeen Griffiths

Have a seat and get ready for some more unsurprising news about Taylor Swift. The thing is, the pop star has never been more popular. Don't get me wrong. She's been popular. She's definitely been a superstar. However, she's never been as universally liked as she has been lately — or as well-respected. Swift has been dismissed as a whiny love song writing, permanently stuck in her teenage years type of artist and hating on her was almost as trendy as hating on Justin Bieber. But not anymore. Now Swift has grown, her music has grown, and she is slaying everywhere she goes. For that reason, it should come as no surprise that Swift will be performing at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade alongside the likes of Nick Jonas, Meghan Trainor, Kiss, and Idina Menzel.

I don't know about you, but it seems like Swift is busy living the dream that every person who moves to New York hopes to live. Some might have found her anthem "Welcome to New York" to be a tad bit overly optimistic to accurately describe everything that New York is, but ever since Swift made her home there she has certainly been having a charmed experience. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade — which airs from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M. on CBS — is just the latest in a line of New York based specials and titles that Swift's name is attached to.

Is it safe to say yet that the pop star has launched a full-scale takeover of my city? She just moved to New York at the beginning of 2014 and in that time she has become the NYC Global Welcome Ambassador for Tourism and been booked for two New York city staples: Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest and now the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. She's written an ode to the city (albeit, one that isn't as good as Jay Z's "Empire State of Mind"), she now has two cats in her fancy New York apartment, and she looks better coming out of a gym than any of us look on our best hair days. All she needs to do now is throw in a Christmas appearance and I would be horrifically jealous of Swift — if I wasn't extremely excited for all of her success.

Because, quite honestly, Swift's love for NYC makes NYC seem like the happenin' place to be. It always has been, but it's easy for New York to get lost in the shuffle when all the celebrities are hanging out in California. All we need now is for Swift to finally convince Selena Gomez to move here with her and we might be able to start giving California a run for their money. All right, maybe that's wishful thinking on my part — we're coming for your crown West Coast! — but the fact still remains that now we can all spend Thanksgiving with Swift. Sort of. And that's definitely something to be thankful for.
