Who Is the "Bullseye" on 'AHS: Freak Show'?

You don’t need to be an accomplished archer like Katniss Everdeen to know that the best way to hit your mark is to aim right at that bullseye. So the fact that Wednesday night’s American Horror Story: Freak Show episode is titled “Bullseye” should give off a pretty good indication that someone is being targeted — in one way or another. The problem is trying to narrow down who exactly the title is referring to. Who is the “Bullseye” on AHS: Freak Show ?

From where I’m sitting pretty much every character has an enemy or two out there, not to mention a particular con man who would like nothing more than to do harm to pretty much all of them. However, given everything that we know about the season thus far, it’s more than possible to deduce who’s found themselves in the center of someone’s sights. And let’s not forget, being a bullseye doesn’t necessarily mean that person will be the next to die. After all, even the best aimers sometimes miss their intended marks.

So who in particular has the greatest probable chance of being targeted this week? So glad you asked! Because I just so happen to have a few thoughts on the matter…

Paul the Illustrated Seal

Let’s begin with the most literal answer of the bunch. As the promo and images indicate, Elsa will introduce a new act to the show, which involves throwing knives at a living, breathing target — a task that apparently poor Paul has been signed up for. (And he looks just thrilled about it, doesn't he?) So if we’re searching on a literal level, Paul is, in fact, the bullseye. Of course, this could also be interpreted symbolically as well, hinting that he’ll be the next “freak” to die. It all depends on how you choose to look at it, I guess. But personally, I'm not too thrilled with the thought of either prospect. Stay safe, Paul!

Jimmy Darling

Out of everyone, Jimmy feels like the strongest bullseye candidate. In fact, the episode synopsis states that, “Stanley exerts pressure on Maggie to murder Jimmy,” proving that he’s the next intended target on Stanley "To Kill" list. Of course, there's absolutely no way they’ll actually succeed in this mission. (You can’t just kill Evan Peters halfway through the season. Fans would revolt!) However, that doesn’t mean he won’t still be the main focus of Stanley and Maggie’s murderous endeavors. (Though I doubt Maggie wants any part of a muder.) If only Stanley knew what Jimmy could do with his hands. Honestly, I bet he’d discover those magical claws are worth more alive than dead.

Elsa Mars

Again, being a bullseye doesn’t necessarily indicate a death sentence. (Obviously, no one's killing off Jessica Lange anytime soon.) But you are capable of being the target of many different things: blame, guilt, etc. And judging by the promo, Elsa’s going to face some high-level scrutiny from her “little monsters” once they realize Bette and Dot have disappeared. Something tells me they’ll be watching her every move from here on out. Ethel even goes so far as to threaten Elsa with, “If you’re lying, I’ll kill you with my own two hands.” And trust me, no one wants to be on the receiving end of a Kathy Bates threat. Watch your back, Fraulein.
