What's Happening With 'The Killing'?

Bad news, murder fans. AMC's The Killing has been killed. Probably for good this time. Much like the zombies in AMC's The Walking Dead, sometimes it takes two shots to get 'em down for good. If you're keeping track at home, yesterday's decision by AMC to end The Killing isn't the first time the once critically acclaimed show has been cancelled. After the much-maligned first season finale caused the second season to dip 30 percent in ratings, the network decided the show wasn't worth the dip or the general side-eye it was getting from critics, and called it quits.

Only, it turned out to be more of a Ross and Rachel "we were on a break" type of thing, because AMC announced a few months later that The Killing was totally coming back, with even more murder than the first time around.

Now, however, it appears The Killing truly is dead: "We’re especially gratified to have orchestrated a unique deal with AMC for Season 3 that included a bold partnership with Netflix," Fox Television studios (which produces the show) said in a statement to Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. "While we would have loved to produce a fourth season for AMC, FTVS is immensely grateful to everyone involved with this moving series."

With Breaking Bad also ending very soon (albeit of its own volition), The Killing officially dumped by the network, and Mad Men also coming to an end at the end of its next season, it'll be interesting to see how AMC goes forward in 2014 with a roster of (The Walking Dead excepted) completely new shows.
