Anthony Weiner Flips Off Reporter, Like a Weiner

by Seth Millstein

Anthony Weiner’s doomed mayoral campaign descended into (yet another) caricature of itself Tuesday night, as Weiner was photographed flipping off reporters from his car as he high-tailed it away from his election night “party” (we can’t imagine it was a very fun party).

It was a fitting cherry on top for a campaign marked by unforced errors and an abrasive, self-destructive attitude on the part of the candidate. Earlier, Weiner was recorded referring 69-year-old Republican candidate George McDonald as “grandpa” at an AARP event (“What are you going to do about it, grandpa?” was the full quote, which was caught on tape). He’s gotten into multiple shouting matches with New York voters who oppose his campaign, and this isn’t even touching on all the things Weiner did before announcing his mayoral campaign.

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio won the New York City Democratic mayoral primary Tuesday night, raking in around 40 percent of the vote. However, de Blasio needs over 40 percent to avoid a run-off with second-placer Bill Thompson, and the vote is close enough that election officials will hold a recount. Christine Quinn, who would have been both the first female and first openly gay New York City mayor, came in a distant third, with 15 percent. Weiner, who once led the race, sputtered and failed, and scraped together less than five percent of the vote in the five-candidate race.

Sydney Leathers, the woman he was caught sexting with, made a night of it by crashing his concession speech.

Not to jump the gun or anything, but is it finally safe to say that Anthony Weiner's political career is over?
