Kim's Proud of Posing Nude & So Are These 4 Ladies

by Nicole Pomarico

It's been a week since she broke the Internet, but everyone's still talking about Kim Kardashian's nude photo shoot with Paper magazine — including Kardashian herself. It's easy to see why the photo is still making headlines, but it's not because everyone's applauding Kardashian's confidence in showing off that glorious booty for the world to see like I am. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of negative opinions out there, but Kardashian isn't letting the haters get to her. In fact, she's pretty proud of her cover — and as far as I'm concerned, she has every right to be.

Aside from admitting that she did, in fact, balance that champagne glass on her butt without the help of Photoshop, Kardashian spoke out about how proud she was of the shoot while she was visiting Australian TV show The Project this week.

"I was so honored and excited to work with [Jean-Paul Goude] because he is a legend, and for me that was something I wanted to do to make myself feel confident," she explained. "As a role model, I'm not saying anyone else should do that, but for me it was an art project, and it taught me to do what you want to do. I'm never one to preach, but I felt really positive and really good about myself. I love the photos. I did it for me. I hope other people like them."

Unsurprisingly, Kardashian isn't the only celebrity who's been proud to pose nude. She's in the company of these amazing women who weren't afraid to show off what their mamas gave them in magazines, and mostly because they were making some amazing points by letting their photographs speak for themselves.

After Knightley's breasts were Photoshopped on the poster for her 2004 movie, King Arthur, Knightley decided to pose topless for Interview magazine in 2014 to show off what her breasts actually looked like — and to protest Photoshopping in general. Obviously, Knightley is one of the last people in the world who would ever need the assistance of editing, which makes the point she was making even more valid. She told The Times:

I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters. That [shoot] was one of the ones where I said: "OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch." Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are. I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame. Our society is so photographic now, it becomes more difficult to see all of those different varieties of shape.

Keys took the nude photo shoot to the next level. Not only was she naked in her photos, but she was also pregnant and supporting an awesome cause. Keys posed for We Are Here, a movement she started to encourage peace worldwide. For her, posing nude was a way to get people's attention and, via the peace sign painted on her pregnant belly, make them realize they need to take supporting aid groups seriously.

"I want to gather an army," she said. "It's time to get people's attention. People won’t be able to ignore this visual."

Earlier this year, Bell posed for Allure 's annual nudes feature, totally naked (and a little bit sandy) with her back to the camera as she sat on the beach. She was also pretty open about talking about her decision to participate in the shoot, especially since body confidence is something so important to her.

"I talk a big game about being comfortable no matter my size," she said. "I wanted to put my money where my mouth was."

Jenna Dewan

Dewan also stripped down for Allure, and she looked amazing doing it. In her particular photo, the Witches of East End actress posed in the water with a look of total calm on her face — something I have to applaud, because I don't think I would have handled a shoot like that the same way. She was also honest about her prep for the shoot, so don't think that bodies like Dewan's happen overnight. Since she'd recently had a baby at the time of the shoot, she spent a lot of time working out to look her best and admitted that, while she's pretty comfortable with nudity, the shoot was still kind of awkward for her.

"It's really funny the direction you get when you're doing this photo shoot," she said. "It's like, 'Show more side boob. Oh, can you relax your fingers while you're covering your nipple?' And 'Don't show the cooch.' These are words I will never hear again."
