The Live-Action 'Cinderella' Trailer Is Here!

by Alyse Whitney

After being teased with a short video of glass slippers, we finally have a trailer for the live-action Cinderella , which hits theaters on March 13. This is a re-imagining of the film that stays true to its roots, but is decidedly British with stars Downton Abbey's Lily James (a.k.a. Lady Rose) as Ella and Game of Thrones' Richard Madden (a.k.a. Robb Stark) as Prince Charming. Unfortunately, there is no singing involved.

Although at first glance this doesn't look like it is feminist or empowering like Frozen, apparently it is in some ways. "We built the film around the idea that even though Cinderella would be delighted to find love, her life would not and could not be defined by whether she finds a man," director Kenneth Branagh told Yahoo. "She likes herself, and she has no sense of self-pity or being any kind of victim." Hopefully Cinderella's strengths will come into play more in the film in surprising ways, throwing a few curveballs into the familiar story.

The all-star cast is rounded out by Cate Blanchett as her evil stepmother and Helena Bonham Carter as Cinderella's fairy godmother. Another familiar face from Downton Abbey also pops up, as Lady Rose and assistant cook Daisy swap roles (Sophie McShera plays Drizella in Cinderella). Full circle, people. Full circle.
