Where does 'Party Down South' Take Place

The Party Down South spinoff on CMT is a wild ride right off the bat. That's right, it's not the third season — it's a separate show. Party Down South 2 will take place in Mississippi in a town on the Gulf Coast with a whole new cast. That cast includes a preacher's daughter, whose father has already spoken out before the show airs, but more against CMT's angling than his daughter's choices. There will be love triangles. There will be drama. There will be mud. The trailer for the new series mostly contains yelling. So much drunken yelling and insisting that I don't know how to party. Which is probably true.

Poor Biloxi. Just like the Jersey Shore never asked to be characterized by visiting New Yorkers and Rhode Islanders, this show isn't really fair to the Southern beach town either. I've never understood why vacation life is marketed as normal life on these shows, but I think that might be the first rule of reality television Fight Club so I'll hush my mouth. What's Biloxi, Mississippi like apart from Party Down South 2? With some gorgeous scenery and a lot of rich history, it would probably be a nice place to visit! You don't even have to do any mudding or hunting, unless you wanted to.

Biloxi in Literature

Biloxi is the setting for a whole slew of John Grisham novels, including The Runaway Jury . Neil Simon also wrote a play called Biloxi Blues, which was adapted into a film and starred Matthew Broderick. It features the character Eugene from Neil Simon's other plays Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound, only this time he's headed to a Party Down South of his own... also known as basic training. Matthew Broderick starred in the play on Broadway as well, and fun fact — Alan Ruck, who played Cameron Frye in Ferris Beuller's Day Off, was in the play as well. Did you think you were going to get some John Hughes trivia today? Thanks, Biloxi!

It's Full of Celebrities

Who needs a cast of out of town hooligans? Biloxi has plenty of its own famous faces. Plenty of professional athletes call the town home. Jimmy Buffett recorded a song about it. You know who else lives there, fellow 90s kids? Under-appreciated Nickelodeon star Kel Mitchell! I will raise a glass of orange soda to this town. So did Good Morning America 's Robin Roberts. I wonder if any of them will be tuning in to the CMT spinoff.

Seedy History

Yikes. The "Dixie Mafia" can also be found in Biloxi. They are a criminal organization and prison gang. Let's hope our partiers don't mess with the wrong people. We wouldn't want anything bad to happen to them, would we? There are also several casinos in Biloxi. Field trip, anyone?

We all know how Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, but Louisiana wasn't the only area hit by that storm. Mississippi had to do a lot of rebuilding as well, and the coastal town of Biloxi was almost completely flattened. There is a Katrina Memorial in Biloxi that was built by the crew of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
