Amy Adams Is Taking on a Legendary Role

After several failed attempts to bring the life of celebrated 1960s rock star Janis Joplin to the big screen, this next bit of news may be the most promising development yet. As announced by The Hollywood Reporter, an upcoming Janis Joplin biopic will star Amy Adams in the title role of the legendary singer. Reportedly, the Golden Globe-winning actress will collaborate with Dallas Buyers Club and Wild director Jean-Marc Vallee, who is scheduled to begin working on the film in the latter half of 2015.

Much like the controversial Lifetime biopic about the late R&B singer Aaliyah, the Joplin project has been in limbo for many years. It has undergone multiple name changes, as well as a series of big-name directors such as Lee Daniels, Fernando Mereilles, and Catherine Hardwicke — and, previously, actress Renee Zellwegger was even said to be up for the film's starring role.

This Joplin biopic isn't out of the woods yet, however: As Uproxx reports, it has competition with another Joplin biopic that's currently in the making, and it has yet to be determined which of the two projects will receive the most access to Joplin's musical catalog.This comes just after Adams announced that she will be joining One Direction to host Saturday Night Live and just as she wrapped Tim Burton-film, Big Eyes, which hits theaters on Christmas.
