How To Make Your Christmas 'Bad'

by Angelica Jade Bastién

If you're like me you're not a big fan of the holidays. Maybe you're not religious. Maybe you identify more with the Grinch than any sane person should. Maybe you don't care for all the faux niceties. Either way, I understand you. But that doesn't mean you can't have an awesome holiday movie night that mixes the heart warming with the weird and somewhat vulgar. Watching Bad Santa at Christmas has become a popular choice for those who go through the holidays with cynicism and properly alcohol laced eggnog.

But how does a Grinch find this holiday "classic" at her own convenience this time of year? You can find Bad Santa streaming on Netflix and for free on Amazon for Prime members. (Even if you don't have Amazon Prime, you can rent it from the site for only a few bucks.) And then there's always the option to rent it through iTunes. But one movie doesn't make a holiday movie night. So what else can you pair with Bad Santa for a very different, awesome streamable holiday themed extravaganza?

Scrooged on Netflix

This 1988 take on A Christmas Carol makes its Scrooge a cynical television programming executive played by Bill Murray. It's irreverent, ridiculous, and a lot of fun. It was the Bad Santa before there was a Bad Santa.

Bob's Burgers' Christmas Episodes

So they aren't technically films, but this show continues to be a smart mix of weird, hilarious, and heart-warming making it perfect for anyone's marathon. Check out "God Rest Ye Merry Gentle-Mannequins" from season three and "Christmas in the Car" from Season 4. "Gentle-Mannequins" involves holiday themed displays full of mannequins, a quick trip to the sex store, and a rather lackluster inheritance. If that doesn't pique your interest, Christmas in the Car involves Linda's overzealous holiday cheer (reminding me a bit too much of my own mom) and the mysterious driver of a candy cane truck who has a very bad case of road rage.

A Nightmare Before Christmas

Is The Nightmare Before Christmas a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? The answer is both. No matter what kind of holiday themed marathon you're planning you shouldn't skip out on A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Addams Family Values

Can I just say Moriticia and Gomez Addams are my OTP? They are two utter weirdos perfectly suited for each other who obviously still love each other even after popping out a few kids and seem really open about their kinks. They are the cinematic version of my own relationship goals. The film deals with the nature of family, what happens when you give a homicidal maniac with great fashion sense the wrong Barbie as a child, and other zany twists that makes the Addams Family film series so memorable. But the holiday themed plot line for the second film revolves mostly around Wednesday Addams, beloved by every girl who has resting bitch face and a penchant for the macabre. In the movie, she lays down the brutal facts about Thanksgiving and wreaks vengeance upon the bubbly, empty brained camp brethren she's stuck with. It is a thing of beauty.
