Will ‘Reign’ Crown Us With Its Presence?

As much as I hate to be the bearer of bad news, I fear I must bring grave TV tidings to your Thanksgiving feast. The CW series Reign will not be airing a new episode this Thanksgiving evening. So if you were hoping to escape the perils of family bonding for an hour or so, I’m sorry to say you will be royally disappointed (pun intended). Will Mary and Francis be able to sort out their marriage troubles? Has Catherine become the new crazy royal in the castle? Will Narcisse and Lola ever hook up? All of these questions will simply have to wait until next week. (Royal hissy fit commencing in 3… 2… 1…)

But fear not, for all hope is not lost. Though Reign unfortunately won’t be gracing us with its presence there are still plenty of worthwhile distractions on TV to fill that empty void Reign left behind, thus allowing us all to end our holiday night on a high note. So grab your second (oh, alright, more like THIRD) helping of pumpkin pie and, by royal decree, I advise you to tune in to one of these completely acceptable Reign replacement options. I guarantee you won’t regret it.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (AMC at 9 p.m.)

OK, so this is just like Reign… in no way. BUT I think we can all agree it’s still a pretty great way to pass your time. Plus, that whole “survival of the fittest” theme is very much like royal politics, in a way, what with the numerous poisonings and constant death threats. Just on a much less scaly level.

The Holiday (Lifetime at 8 p.m.)

Not only will this get you in the mood for Christmas, but you’ll still get a taste of that love-centric drama that Reign provides each and every week. Not to mention that having Jude Law on your TV screen is never considered a bad thing. Ever.

Two Weeks Notice (E! at 8 p.m.)

A woman determined to not let a man with a British accent control her life? Does this sound like another strong-willed lady we may know? Though they live in different time periods, I have no doubt that Queen Mary and Sandra Bullock’s Lucy Kelson would get along famously, making this film a solid substitute.

Whose Line Is It Anyway (The CW at 9 p.m.)

Because when all else fails, you can never go wrong with something that makes you laugh.

How To Get Away With Murder (ABC at 9 p.m.)

If you aren’t already addicted to Shonda Rhimes’ hottest new TV series, this is the perfect opportunity to see what everyone is raving about. The pilot episode will immediately get you hooked and have you racing over to the closest Hulu Plus account to binge watch the rest. What can I say? It's a show to die for.
