Barbie Has Been Dethroned As Queen of Christmas

by Eliza Castile

Poor Barbie just can't catch a break this year. After being lambasted for her not-so-"feminist" essay earlier this year and now facing competition in the form of Lammily, the "normal" Barbie, she now has to deal with the news that for the first time in 10 years, she's not the most coveted toy for Christmas. This year, little girls (and boys) want Frozen dolls, not Barbie. The National Retail Federation (NRF) has done a survey of parents nationwide for the past 10 years, and every year Barbie has taken the top spot for what they're planning to buy their daughters. But unfortunately for our not-so-beloved fashion doll, this year she's been deposed by the adorable sisters from Frozen. Out of the 6,600 parents surveyed, 20 percent planned on buying Anna or Elsa for their kids, while Barbie garnered a lowly 17 percent. Oh, how the mighty have fallen!...Fine, that's only three percent lower than the Frozen dolls. I think it's safe to say that Barbie isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Plus, as Jezebel points out, both kinds of dolls are sold by Mattel, so it's not like the company is losing money with Barbie's dethroning. Basically:

As worthy a cause as it would have been, the NRF didn't just set out to start a Barbie versus Elsa feud. Here's the rest of the presents parents are buying their daughters this year.
