'Oldboy' Looks Even Better Than Expected

I was already pretty excited to see Spike Lee's take on Oldboy, but after this new promo, multiply that by tenfold; this is going to be great. In this new Oldboy promo, we get our first look at exactly how twisted and depraved those holding Josh Brolin's character captive are — and how Samuel L. Jackson plays a huge role in why he was kidnapped.

If you're not familiar with Oldboy, the whole plot may seem a bit confusing — it's based on a 2003 South Korean film of the same name, which was directed by Chan-Wook Park, and that movie itself was actually based on a Japanese manga that ran between 1996 and 1998. Park's version was flawless in itself, so there's been a ton of debate about whether or not Lee, as talented a director as he is, should even attempt a remake.

This clip is so compelling, though, I can't see it not swaying the naysayers.

Oldboy stars Josh Brolin as an advertising executive who is kidnapped and held hostage in solitary confinement for 20 years. He's then abruptly released in a box in the middle of a field with only sunglasses and a ton of cash (as depicted in the picture above), prompting him to set out to discover who was behind his kidnapping. This doesn't go well, obviously. Elizabeth Olsen also stars.

You can check out the clip below. Lee's Oldboy will hit theaters on Nov. 27.
