Bringing Your Same Sex Partner Home For Holidays

by Emma Cueto

The holidays are a stressful time for everyone, especially if you're bringing someone home to meet your family for the first time — and that goes double if the significant other in question isn't the gender your parents might have assumed. Fortunately, Buzzfeed's video "How To Bring Your Same Sex Partner Home For the Holidays" has some solid advice on the subject. Plus, it can help you remember to keep your sense of humor about the whole thing. And when it comes to families, a sense of humor is crucial.

Going back home for the holidays is always a bit of a balancing act, even when you go home alone. For one thing, your parents blithely assume you'll be following all the rules you used to live by in your teenage years before moving out, which is already going to lead to tension. Plus every family has their baggage — and if you only see each other in person a few times a year, those issues are bound to come out. So when you throw a significant other into the mix, things can get even more complicated, and that goes double for same sex couples.

So in order to keep the family drama down to a reasonable minimum, if you're bringing your same sex partner home for the holidays, follow this (hilariously acted out) advice. And actually, that last one is good advice for anyone bringing your significant other home.
