Steal Kate's Chic NYC Half-Up Hairstyle

by Alexa Tucker

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few days (which I wouldn't judge you for — it's cold outside), you know the royals took a quick trip to NYC this week. Although I'm displeased that George didn't make the trip with his parents, I'm still pretty happy with their time in the city. Kate wore amazing coats, Wills was handsome as ever (thinning hair and all,) and British royalty and American royalty finally met when the pair chatted with Beyoncé and Jay Z at a Brooklyn Nets game. One underrated moment from their hop over the pond, though, was one particularly great hair moment from Kate.

The Duchess gave her go-to half-up do an upgrade on Day Two when she visited the Northside Center for Child Development in Harlem. Instead of sticking to her signature pin-up, Kate worked a woven style. To copy the look, start by blowing out your hair so it's nice and sleek à la Kate Middleton, and then create loose curls with a large-barrel curling iron. Then, follow the tutorial below from the Small Things to create the woven illusion. Basically, it involves crossing sections of hair over a pinned-up section toward the back, but I promise she can explain it better than I do. What I do know, though, is that I'll be trying this hairstyle out very soon.
