This Dramatic Proposal REALLY Didn't Go As Planned

by Michelle Regalado

We’ve all seen stories of elaborate proposals going awry, but one Dutch man’s engagement mishap this weekend took things to new heights… literally. On Saturday, the man reportedly rented a crane, with the intention of having it lower him down in front of his girlfriend’s bedroom window so that he could serenade her before popping the question. A proposal involving the operation of heavy machinery… nothing could possibly go wrong in that scenario, right?

As you can imagine, something did go wrong — very, very wrong. Instead of landing him neatly in front of his girlfriend’s window, the crane toppled over and went crashing through the neighbor’s roof. Um… oops? As if that wasn’t bad enough, the crane fell through the same roof a second time during a later attempt to right it. Double oops?

The residents of 32 nearby homes had to be evacuated before a recovery company could eventually successfully stabilize the crane. The good news is that no one was injured. And though the proposal may not have gone quite as planned, the story still has a fairy tale ending. The man’s girlfriend said yes, and the couple immediately jetted off to Paris to celebrate. Which is probably for the best… I’m sure their neighbors probably still aren’t too thrilled about the giant hole in their roof.
